11/27/2001 Entry: "Part one of "the Last Sonnet""

There were times when he would just stop and think about what he was doing and just keep on thinking without doing anything at all. Ferdinand was perfectly content with producing nothing but thoughts. He did not write down these thoughts, nor did he have the intent of memorizing any of the good ones, and there were good ones.

He could swear that one time he figured out his purpose in life, what he was here for, and then he eventually found out what anyone was here for, perhaps not the truth but it was pretty logical. But he forgot that. He would often try to think of new perfect governments but they always ended up like socialism or communism and then he would stop thinking about that. His friends thought a lot too, but not as much as him, but they never shared their thoughts.
The strange and beautiful Catrina always started a conversation with, "¡Allo! ¡Allo!"
And Ferdinand would usually reply with something French sounding or something French. Today it would be, "Bonjour, madamoiselle." or however it is spelt.
"Did you see the new comic book by Kevin Lee, Magnetic Problems for Space Teens?
"No... what the hell is that? Space teens?" Catrina is very interesting to Ferdinand. He looks at all of her at once. Her plain grey dress and old Nike Airs with no socks and her shoulder length, wavy black hair. And he thinks. You are beautiful. You have dark skin. Like caramel. He blinks the thought away.
"Yeah, it's a silly title but it's really f good." She notices Ferdinand is looking at her and suspects that it is in that way. But she doesn't really mind because she wouldn't mind Ferdinand putting his hands under her shirt or kissing her back.
"What's it about?" Ferdinand walk backwards and trips over the curb, falling butt first onto the grass. He lays down there hoping he hasn't layed down in dog mess.
Trying to hide it, she scratches the back of her leg. "Eh... it's kind of hard to explain... did you ever read Carmine Phillips or see a Mikel Dorf movie?"
He sees it. "I could pretend to have done either, but I haven't." This grass isn't itchy. Thank God. And no traces of dog mess seem to be on or around him. "Are you leaving today?"
"Oh no. I'll be here a couple of days. So, what do you wanna do?"
She walks closer and he can see up her skirt. Light blue, cotton underwear. His reactions cause him to sit up. "Let's go to the Lights tonight."
She drops to the ground next to him. Close enough for him to hear breathe and sigh. "But what about now? It's such a nice day outside, but what is there to do outside."
"When I was little, picnics were fun."
"They probably still are, but picnics take too much work."
Her skirt moves up a little. "Yeah. And I have no peanut butter." Why can he only think sexual thoughts around her? When she is not near him he can think about her and it is about lots of things like how versatile a person she is or how cool it is too make things like comics with her. He sees her leg, looks up too the clouds and closes his eyes for three seconds. He thinks. My nervous hands would calm if I could only rub them on her smooth skin. Along her legs, down from her ankles all the way up. This was cheesy romance novel stuff he thought. Or even erotic literature. The only difference being the word romantic and passionate are replaced with erotic and words alike. "Yeah, no peanut butter for the PBJ sandwiches."
"And milk." Her thoughts wander on about Kevin Lee's latest opus. She'd really like to just lay on her bed with Ferdinand and read comics all day.
"Magnetic Problems?" He'd really just like to hold her. "Space Teens?" But being next to her was just fine.
"Damn, you just have to read it to get it and even if you don't get it there's still lots to think about." It was decided. They would go back to her place and read comics. "I mean, essentially, it is an action comic, but a lot of the actions are just-" She really didn't know she was talking about at this point, "well, they seem unwarranted but Lee really charactarizes each individual in such a way that with the small bits of dialogue an entire history is unfolded within a matter of a few panels." Then she knew what she was talking about."
"S
*. What do you wanna do?" He already knew they were going back to her place.
"Let's go back to my hole and read comics and listen to records."
